AI important in unlocking opportunities, says ASEAN BAC Brunei Chair

Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) is pivotal for businesses to enhance efficiency, drive innovation, and unlock opportunities in ASEAN’s digital transformation, ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC) Brunei Chair and Dynamik Technologies Chief Executive Officer Haslina binti Haji Mohd Taib said.

“This requires fostering inclusivity and ensuring the ethical development and deployment of AI systems. Promoting the adoption of tools for efficient AI governance is crucial in this endeavour. Aligned with the ASEAN Guide on AI Governance and Ethics, this approach ensures that AI benefits society, fosters trust, and drives sustainable development across ASEAN,” she said.

Haslina said this when the ASEAN BAC convened its 100th council meeting marking a milestone in the region’s journey towards economic integration and sustainable development in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia yesterday.

The 100th ASEAN BAC meeting brought together business representatives from across the ASEAN member states and Timor Leste.

The meeting emphasised on strategic agendas of ASEAN-BAC which consists of Laos 2024 Chairmanship, focusing on updates for the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit and ASEAN Business Awards, progress on legacy projects and updates from the Ministerial engagements.

The ASEAN BAC delegates presented key takeaways from the consultations with ASEAN Economic Minister (AEM) and ASEAN Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (AFMGM) in Luang Prabang in March. The meeting underscored the critical role of innovation, investment, and integration in driving the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) towards greater competitiveness and prosperity.

Council members exchanged insights on emerging trends, best practices, and actionable recommendations to address the evolving needs and challenges facing ASEAN businesses in a rapidly changing global landscape.

During the meeting, ASEAN BAC Malaysia who will chair next year emphasised on their focus to generate increased regional deals, transactions and products in renewed efforts to foster regional economic integration.

ASEAN BAC Malaysia will drive the private sector agenda for ASEAN BAC to ensure the 10 member states focus on transactions which benefit and bring the economies closer together.
