Representatives of the political forces in the Sudanese state of Kassala have supported their country’s decision to close the border crossings with Eritrea.

Sudan had closed the border with its neighbour after announcing a six-month state of emergency in the regions of Kassala and North Kurdufan on Saturday. The move came a day after media reports claimed that Egypt, in coordination with the United Arab Emirates, had deployed thousands of troops in the Eritrean base of Sawa.

The Sudanese representatives welcomed the government’s decision saying it will reflect positively on the people’s lives.

On Friday, the Sudanese army deployed thousands of troops along the border with Eritrea.
